On December 26, 2017, just before noon, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods Fire Protection District (LRFPD) and neighboring fire departments responded to a house fire at 1505 Garden Court in unincorporated Lake County. Units en route reported seeing a large plume of smoke rising into the sky long before arriving on scene. Upon arrival, LRFPD Battalion 51 observed flames bursting from both the garage and attic, prompting an immediate request for a working fire upgrade.
The home appeared to be unoccupied at the time and was undergoing renovation. Unfortunately, the first hydrant on the scene was found to be inoperable. To maintain a continuous water supply, Buffalo Grove Engine 26 laid a large line from the end of the block, while Wheeling Tower 24 was positioned in front of the house to assist with operations.
Firefighters launched an interior attack that successfully knocked down the fire on the second floor and in the attic, while other crews worked to contain the blaze in the garage. The incident was escalated to a MABAS Box Alarm, bringing additional units to the scene.
An extensive list of responding companies included LRFPD Battalion 51, Squad 51, Ambulance 51, Battalion 52, Ambulance 52, Engine 53, 5101, and 5100; Wheeling Tower 24, Engine 42, Ambulance 24, Battalion 24, and 2401; Buffalo Grove Engine 26 and Ambulance 26; Mt Prospect Ambulance 14; Northbrook Engine 10; Prospect Heights Tower 9, Des Plaines Engine 61; Highland Park Engine 34; Deerfield-Bannockburn Squad 19 and 2001; Gurnee Squad 1352; Wauconda Tower 341; as well as chief officers from Libertyville and Countryside.
Multiple photos captured the intensity of the fire, including images of heavy smoke, flames, and the inoperable fire hydrant. More photos are available at Shapirophotography.net.
