Construction on the new Palatine Fire Department Station 81 is well underway at its new location on N. Quentin Road, just south of Dundee Road. The site is less than a mile from the current station, which has been in use since the town acquired it from the Palatine Rural Fire District in January 2001. This older facility has long been considered outdated, prompting the need for a modern replacement.
Once the new station is fully operational, the Palatine Masonic Temple will relocate to the former fire station at 455 Dundee Road, a building constructed in the early 1980s. This move will help optimize space and resources within the community.
The new station is designed with improved accessibility and safety in mind. Unlike the current facility, which is situated directly on a narrow stretch of Dundee Road, the new station will be set back from the road with a longer driveway. Emergency vehicles will enter onto a four-lane road featuring a center median, offering faster and safer access compared to the current location, which is often congested due to heavy traffic.
The new station will span approximately 8,700 square feet and will house Quint 81 and Ambulance 81, which currently operates as a jump unit. These units are vital to the department’s response capabilities, and the new space will provide better working conditions for firefighters and paramedics alike.

The current Station 81, now vacant, once served the Palatine Rural Fire District before being handed over to the city.
