It has been reported that starting June 1st, South Korea will introduce stricter standards for pesticide residues in agricultural products, which are more comprehensive than the previous regulations. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of South Korea, the list of agricultural products covered under the new pesticide residue guidelines will expand from the current 24 types to include additional species such as spinach, leeks, scallions, garland chrysanthemum, and suji leaves, bringing the total to 37 varieties.
In addition, the number of pesticide residues monitored will increase from 132 to 213, with more detailed classifications. This enhanced regulation is expected to significantly reduce disputes and misunderstandings that previously arose during pesticide testing. The updated rules aim to ensure higher food safety standards and better compliance with international trade requirements, helping Korean agricultural exports maintain their competitive edge in global markets. The changes reflect the government's commitment to protecting consumer health and strengthening the credibility of its agricultural sector.
