Audi sales in China rose 16.8% in April

In early May, Audi announced that it had sold 149,000 units worldwide in April this year, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year. In the largest single market, China climbed 16.8% year-on-year, especially SUV demand, which surged over 40% year-on-year.

Audi A3 soars 43%

In April 2014, Audi delivered 149,050 vehicles globally, compared to 133,495 units in April 2013, an increase of 11.6% year-on-year. In the month, Audi achieved year-on-year growth in major markets such as China, Europe and the United States. Among the major luxury car brands, Audi's monthly sales are still second only to BMW.

From January to April of this year, Audi's total global delivery volume reached 561,900 units, which was 502,989 vehicles in the same period of 2013, a year-on-year increase of 11.7%.

In April, Audi's compact SUV Q3 delivered worldwide sales of 15,542 vehicles, which rose by 29.3% year-on-year. The new Audi A3 series surged 44.4% year-on-year to 25,766 units, and the family’s models are constantly being released in more markets around the world. Full-size models, including the Audi A6, Audi A7, Audi Q7 and Audi A8, saw their total global sales increase by 9.1% year-on-year.

In the Wagon Series, the Audi A6 Avant climbed 21.0% year-on-year to 4,934 units. The highest-selling Audi wagon is still the Audi A4 Avant, an increase of 7.5% to 7,667 units.

SUV leads the Chinese market

In April 2014, Audi delivered 45,216 cars to consumers in the Chinese market (including Hong Kong), which increased 16.8% year-on-year on the basis of the 38,710 units in April 2013. From January to April, Audi's cumulative sales in China reached 169,736 units, which was a 19.9% ​​increase from the same period last year, which was 141,520 units.

China still firmly occupies Audi's number one single market, while Audi still holds the top-selling luxury car brand in China.

In April, Audi brand SUVs sold well in China, up 43.3% year-on-year to 16,910 units. The sales volume of Audi Q7 full-size large-scale SUVs in China increased by 25.6% year-on-year in April this year, and cumulative sales from January to April soared by 79.0% year-on-year.

In March, the Audi A3 Sportback was launched and became a new member of Audi's compact car production in China. Audi will also produce the Audi A3 sedan this summer at the FAW-Volkswagen plant. Together with the Audi Q3, which began assembling in November 2012, the compact car has played an important role in the Audi China layout.

Luca de Meo, head of Audi sales, said: "We are the first luxury car manufacturer to put into production three compact car products in China."

Audi also embarked on an expansion of its dealer network in China. On average, there is a new Audi dealership opening in China each week. It has so far covered more than 150 cities and has exceeded 340 stores in total. Audi plans to increase its number of dealership stores in China to more than 500 by 2017.

Sales in other regions

In April, Audi achieved growth in all major markets, including the previously depressed Europe.

Audi’s sales in Europe in April from 65,496 units increased by 8.6% year-on-year to 71,150 units, from January to April from 253,064 units to 7.3% year-on-year to 271,500 units.

Audi sold 25,503 vehicles in Germany in April. It sold 23,411 units in April last year, an increase of 8.9% year-on-year; 91,961 units sold in January-April and 82,527 units in the same period of last year, a year-on-year increase of 11.4%.

Audi sold 12,630 vehicles in the UK in April. It sold 10,205 vehicles in April last year, an increase of 23.8% year-on-year; it sold 56,301 vehicles in January-April, compared with 49,447 vehicles in the same period of last year, a year-on-year increase of 13.9%.

Audi sold 4,270 vehicles in France in April. In April last year, it sold 3,920 units, an increase of 8.9% year-on-year. From January to April, it sold 20,272 units, compared to 20,189 units in the same period of last year, an increase of 0.4% year-on-year.

Audi sold 4,516 vehicles in Italy in April. It sold 4,707 units in April last year, down 4.1% year-on-year; it sold 16,807 units in January-April, and 16,016 units in the same period last year, an increase of 4.9% year-on-year.

Audi sold 3,541 vehicles in Spain in April. It sold 3,392 vehicles in April last year, an increase of 4.4% year-on-year; it sold 15,060 vehicles in January-April and 14,289 vehicles in the same period last year, an increase of 5.4% year-on-year.

Audi sold 3,660 vehicles in Russia in April. It sold 3,651 vehicles in April last year, an increase of 0.2% year-on-year; it sold 11,946 vehicles in January-April, and 11,929 in the same period of last year, an increase of 0.1% year-on-year.

Audi sold 15,653 vehicles in the United States in April. It sold 13,157 vehicles in April last year, an increase of 19.0% year-on-year; it sold 50,881 vehicles in January-April and 47,343 vehicles in the same period of last year, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%.

Audi sold 951 vehicles in Mexico in April. In April last year, it sold 944 vehicles, which was a year-on-year increase of 0.7%. From January to April, it sold 4,026 vehicles, compared with 3,553 vehicles in the same period of last year, an increase of 13.3% year-on-year.

Audi sold 1,108 vehicles in Brazil in April. It sold 410 vehicles in April last year, an increase of 170.2% year-on-year; it sold 4,223 units in January-April, and 1,570 vehicles in the same period last year, an increase of 169.0%.
