Autodesk has released an updated version of Revit, the leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software, today for Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers. This new release, Revit 2015 R2, introduces over 30 features that have been specifically requested by users, enhancing functionality, performance, and overall productivity for architects, MEP engineers, and structural professionals. This update not only addresses direct customer feedback but also provides added value to subscription users who gain access to the latest Revit technologies. Jim Lynch, Vice President of Building and Collaboration Products at Autodesk, said, “Our customers are always looking for better tools to meet their business goals. This update helps them deliver more with advanced technologies, ensuring they exceed client expectations.” Alongside the main Revit update, Autodesk is also introducing the Site Designer Extension for Revit 2015. Available through the Autodesk Exchange Store, this tool allows architects, designers, and planners to shape terrain directly within Revit. It’s built on the acquisition of Eagle Point Software Corporation's SiteWorks technology, offering a powerful site planning solution that integrates seamlessly into the BIM workflow. The Site Designer extension lets users model grading, building pads, streets, and other site elements natively in Revit. Changes automatically update the underlying topography, and models can be shared with AutoCAD Civil 3D via Land XML files, improving collaboration between disciplines. Revit 2015 R2 was previously previewed through the "Revit Sundial" hosted experience, and the final version is now available exclusively to subscribers. Users who tested the preview praised its improved speed and efficiency, especially when working with large or complex data sets. This release is fully compatible with previous versions of Revit 2015 and does not introduce any file format changes. It installs smoothly without disrupting existing projects, making it easy for users to upgrade. Key improvements in Revit 2015 R2 include: - **Power**: New tools like Project Solon for energy performance dashboards, enhanced IFC model referencing, constraint visibility in Reveal mode, and automatic installation of Dynamo for visual programming. - **Performance**: Faster editing of site models, improved memory usage during energy analysis, quicker rendering, and faster display of linked files. - **Productivity**: Enhanced perspective view navigation, one-click wall join adjustments, improved search in the Type Selector, and hyperlinked PDF navigation. With each release, Autodesk continues to refine the user experience, focusing on making BIM workflows more efficient and intuitive. Jim Lynch emphasized, “We’re excited to provide these new features to our dedicated subscription customers, who rely on Revit as their core BIM solution.” Revit 2015 R2 is now available globally to eligible subscribers in multiple languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese, and more. The Site Designer Extension is also available to select users, offering an essential addition to the Revit ecosystem for site modeling and design.
