Autodesk has launched an updated version of Revit 2015 R2 for Building Information Modeling (BIM), available today to Maintenance and Desktop Subscription customers. This release brings over 30 new features requested by users, offering enhanced capabilities, improved performance, and greater productivity for architects, MEP engineers, and structural professionals.
The Revit R2 release not only addresses customer feedback but also provides added value for subscription users, giving them access to the latest BIM technologies. Jim Lynch, Vice President of Building and Collaboration Products at Autodesk, said, "Our customers are always looking for more efficiency and advanced tools to meet their business goals. This update is designed to help our subscribers deliver better results and exceed client expectations with cutting-edge technology."
Alongside the main Revit release, Autodesk has introduced the Site Designer Extension for Revit 2015, now available via the Autodesk Exchange Store. This tool, built on the acquired SiteWorks software from Eagle Point Software, allows architects, designers, and planners to shape terrain directly within Revit, making site design an integral part of the building model. It supports mass grading, building pads, streets, and retaining walls, with automatic updates to the underlying topography.
Site Designer also improves collaboration between Revit and AutoCAD Civil 3D through Land XML files, enabling seamless sharing of context-rich site models. Performance enhancements in Revit R2 ensure faster editing and regeneration of complex site elements.
Earlier this month, Autodesk gave a preview of these features through the "Revit Sundial" hosted experience. The R2 version is now a full Subscription-only release, with positive feedback from early users who praised its speed and efficiency, especially when working with large, data-heavy views.
Revit 2015 R2 is fully compatible with previous Revit 2015 versions, with no file format changes and no disruption to ongoing projects. Key improvements include:
- **Power**: New tools like Project Solon for energy performance dashboards, IFC reference support, Reveal Constraints mode, and integrated Dynamo for visual programming.
- **Performance**: Faster handling of complex site designs, energy analysis, family instances, and linked Revit models.
- **Productivity**: Enhanced navigation in perspective views, single-click wall join editing, improved search in Type Selector, and hyperlinked PDF navigation.
The release is available in multiple languages, including English, French, Spanish, Japanese, and more, and is accessible to a wide range of subscription customers. Additionally, the Site Designer Extension is available in English to select users.
With each release, Autodesk continues to focus on delivering a better BIM experience, ensuring that its software remains at the forefront of architectural and engineering innovation.
