"Long Nose" Heavy Truck Guiding Battle Dongfeng Dragon Card PK

As the number of "long-nose" heavy trucks continues to rise in China, a fierce "elephant" competition is unavoidable. Companies such as Liberation Liuute, Dongfeng Liuzhou, Zhenjiang Jinggong, and Futian South Engineering Depot have all entered this intense market race. Among them, Dongfeng Liuzhou’s "Dragon Card" and Jinggong’s "Voyage" stand out as two of the most eye-catching models. **Design Battle** From a launch perspective, Dongfeng Liuzhou’s "Longka" was introduced in July 2005, giving it a head start in the market. It capitalized on the growing demand for long-nose trucks and quickly gained traction, achieving strong sales performance in the first 11 months of 2006 and 2007. In contrast, Jinggong’s "Voyage" was officially unveiled in March 2007, arriving later and missing some initial market opportunities. However, it benefited from the existing user base that had already shown interest in long-nose trucks. The "Longka" and "Voyage" are built on different platforms. The "Longka" was developed by Dongfeng Liuzhou based on designs inspired by North American trucks, while the "Voyage" is a result of Jinggong’s imitation of the U.S. "Universal" heavy truck model. A representative from Jinggong’s industrial park mentioned that they had previously imported Ukrainian-style long-nose trucks from the U.S. In terms of design, the "Longka" features a smoother, more streamlined appearance, though its front end is relatively smaller. On the other hand, the "Voyage" has a more angular and imposing look, with a stronger visual presence. **Positioning Differences** The "Longka" targets the economic segment, with a price around 150,000 yuan, positioned between mid-sized and full-size heavy trucks. Its basic configuration is a simplified version of the Liubo Balong M flat-head model, making it more accessible for short-haul operations in regions like northern Fujian, Guangdong, and Guangxi. Meanwhile, the "Voyage" has only recently been announced in August and September of this year and hasn't yet hit the mass market. According to company officials, the "Voyage" will take a high-end approach, avoiding direct competition with the "Dragon Card." It comes equipped with advanced options such as ASR anti-slip systems, eddy current retarders, and Meritor single-stage drive axles. It's likely that the "Voyage" could be priced lower in the future, potentially leading to a direct clash with the "Longka." **Configuration Competition** Both models use engines from local manufacturers. The "Longka" comes standard with a Yuchai engine, offering power outputs of 260 or 280 horsepower. The "Voyage," however, recommends a FAW Xichai 310 hp diesel engine, with higher-end versions featuring Hino P11C or Xi'an Cummins ISM345 engines. Transmission-wise, both use popular domestic configurations—Shaanxi Fast dual countershaft transmissions. The "Longka" offers 7, 8, or 9-speed options, while the "Voyage" includes a 9-speed option and can also be equipped with an Eaton 10-speed transmission. Other features vary slightly. The "Longka" uses a Fangsheng 457 single-bridge axle, and its frame is made using a spray process with 6,300-ton punch presses, enhancing corrosion resistance and durability. The "Voyage," on the other hand, features powerful components, including a 6.5-ton front axle and an 11.5-ton rear axle (or 13-ton double rear axle), with optional Meritor or Steyr axles. This highlights Jinggong’s strategy of focusing on "high speed and heavy load." In terms of speed, the "Voyage"’s single-stage rear axle will provide a strong challenge if it ever faces the "Longka"’s 457 single-stage rear axle.
