**From Jeff Rudolph:**
*September 1, 2016, at around 9:30 AM, I was called to 549 Indian Trail in Round Lake Park, Illinois. Round Lake and Grayslake fire departments were dispatched to a reported structure fire. When they arrived, they found a single-story home fully engulfed in flames. Command quickly upgraded the situation to a box alarm due to the intensity of the fire.
The firefighters initially focused on putting out the main body of the fire, which they managed to do relatively quickly. However, it soon became apparent that the fire had spread into the attic space, complicating their efforts. Attempts were made to access the attic from below, but the crew soon discovered that the pitched roof had been installed over an existing flat roof. This meant that the only viable way to extinguish the fire completely was to fight it from above.
As the situation worsened, the decision was made to go defensive. Libertyville’s aerial ladder truck was brought in to douse the flames from above, which proved effective in containing the blaze. Unfortunately, one resident had to be transported to the hospital for a medical evaluation as a precautionary measure.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was contacted, and a K9 unit was requested to search for any signs of accelerants, as the homeowner insisted that someone had intentionally set the fire.
I took some photos from various angles to document the scene. These images capture the intense firefighting effort and the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
