The Robbins Fire Department, part of MABAS Division 22, has recently been added to the site. Located in Robbins, Illinois, the department operates from a single fire station that houses four fire engines, a tower ladder, and a mini-pumper. The fire engines are from well-known manufacturers such as Darley, E-ONE, Fire-Max, and HME. Notably, the Darley engine was previously assigned to the Orland Fire Protection District, while the E-ONE unit originally served the Riverside Fire Department. These units are equipped to provide EMS first responder services, supporting Bud’s Ambulance Service, which is contracted for advanced life support (ALS) care in the community.
The mini-pumper was custom-built by Hammerly on a Ford chassis, not a Dodge as initially noted. It was once operated by a fire department on the East Coast, specifically the Libertyville Fire Department in Illinois. This history adds an interesting layer to the unit's background, highlighting its journey across the country.
Two of the department's engines have been documented with photographs. Engine 2923, which was formerly stationed in Riverside, IL, is now part of Robbins' fleet. A second engine, 2913, was originally built for the Orland Fire Protection District. This particular unit was part of a larger order of five vehicles from Darley, including three engines, a 55-foot Snorkel, and a 100-foot LTI rear-mount tower ladder. These units reflect the department's commitment to having versatile and reliable equipment.
The Robbins Fire Station, located at 3327 W. 137th Street, features distinctive Chicago-style red doors, each marked with the company labels. The station serves as a central hub for emergency response in the area. Photos of the station and the engines capture the essence of this local fire department, offering a glimpse into its operations and history.
