**From Tyler Tobolt:**
I just got back from capturing some images at the McHenry Township's third-alarm fire last night involving Tender Box 5-1274. The fire broke out at a house on November 11th, 2015, after it was fully engulfed due to a lightning strike. It was quite an intense situation, and these pictures should give you an idea of how things unfolded.
– Thanks, Tyler Tobolt.

**Excerpts from the Northwest Herald:**
According to reports, a lightning strike may have sparked the fire that ultimately destroyed a McHenry home. However, fire officials mentioned that it wasn’t just the lightning that made this event particularly challenging—factors like high winds and limited access to water played significant roles in complicating the firefighting efforts.
Battalion Chief Mike Majercik explained that crews had to call in tanker trucks to transport water to the two-story house located at 607 Silver Glen Road since there were no nearby fire hydrants. Combined with the strong winds blowing through as they attempted to douse the flames, the conditions created a tough scenario.
“The combination of the wind and the lack of immediate water access gave the fire a head start,†Majercik stated.
The McHenry Fire Department received a box alarm around 8:45 PM on Wednesday, and by 10 PM, flames were still visible from the upper floors of the structure. Lieutenant Mike Kempster noted that the remaining flames originated from a gas main that hadn’t been shut off yet. Nicor arrived approximately 30 minutes later to address this issue. Within 90 minutes, firefighters managed to gain control of the blaze.
Winds were reportedly gusting up to 35 mph when the fire initially broke out, and by the time crews finally cleared the scene early Thursday morning, gusts had increased to nearly 40 mph.
The house was completely destroyed in the fire, with total damages estimated at around $450,000, including the structure and all its contents.
While the official cause of the fire hasn't been confirmed yet, Majercik mentioned that the homeowners reported hearing a loud noise on their roof prior to a neighbor calling to report the roof was on fire.
This incident certainly highlights the unpredictable nature of fires and the importance of having proper safety measures in place.
