Background

Recycled PET bottle flakes are produced from waste beverage bottles through sorting, crushing, washing, and drying processes. This makes it possible to produce recycled PET flakes in any area where beverages are consumed. As a major importer of PET bottle flakes, China imports over 10–13 million tons annually. However, in 2017, China imposed stricter environmental regulations, completely banning the import of waste plastics, including recycled PET in bales or flakes. According to these new rules, recycled plastics can only be imported as granules or chips, making it essential to re-pelletize the flakes for recyclers.

To comply with Chinese regulations, it's necessary to re-process the recycled PET flakes into granules. This ensures that the material meets the requirements for export and avoids issues related to moisture, impurities, and quality degradation during processing.

Key Features of PET Bottle Flakes Recycling and Pelletizing System from ACERETECH

  • Pre-drying is essential before re-pelletizing to prevent hydrolysis. ACERETECH uses either venting-type compactors or lifting-type drying hoppers to ensure effective moisture removal from the flakes.
  • The system integrates modular processing sections and advanced degassing technology. A 3-stage root vacuum pump helps achieve a vacuum pressure of -0.1MPa, removing volatiles efficiently and minimizing IV value reduction.
  • Optimized screw design and process steps allow continuous and efficient transformation of flakes into molten PET, reducing yellowing caused by dead zones or high temperatures.
  • Strands pelletizing is suitable for lower capacities (below 600kg/h), but for higher output, an automatic underwater pelletizing system is recommended for better efficiency and automation.
