Dan McInerney captured the Still and Box Alarm on Sheridan Road yesterday and shared several photos from the scene with his detailed account: At approximately 2:45 PM on Friday, the 9th Battalion received a still alarm for a fire at 5757 N. Sheridan (later corrected to 5747 N. Sheridan). The Fire Alarm Officer initially classified it as a working fire but later upgraded it to a "still in the high rise." As the 9th Battalion approached the intersection of Sheridan and Hollywood, they called for a still and box alarm. Upon arrival, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from the third floor of a three-story townhome measuring 75x125 feet. The building was directly adjacent to a 30-story high-rise to the south.
Engine 70 deployed their attack line and quickly began suppressing the fire, while Truck 47 extended a ladder from the southern parking lot to reach the roof. A still in the high-rise response was initiated to prevent any impact on the stairwells of the nearby high-rise and to avoid making it an exposure. The staging area was set up at Hollywood and Sheridan, which is the northern entrance to Lake Shore Drive (LSD), leading to significant traffic congestion on LSD during a Friday afternoon when the air show was winding down.  Command Van 2-7-2 setup down the street.
