The 2011 Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) has just concluded, and the convention center was packed with exhibitors showcasing a wide range of fire apparatus, gear, and even promotional items. Among the highlights were two local rigs on display: a Medtec Type III ambulance for Algonquin-Lake in the Hills at the Pierce booth and a Cyclone II 95-foot rear mount tower ladder for University Park in the E-ONE booth.

Other notable displays included FDNY equipment such as a Wheeled Coach ambulance on a four-door Ford chassis, an engine from Seagrave, and Rescue 4 and Ladder 137 from Ferrara. These units gave attendees a glimpse into the latest in emergency response technology.

Crimson displayed a tandem axle rescue unit for Elizabeth, NJ, while KME showcased a tiller for Norwalk, CT. American LaFrance featured a tiller for Ventura County, CA, and HME presented a Type III wildland pumper for CALFIRE.

New product introductions were a big hit at the show. Pierce unveiled the Dash CF chassis under a PUC rescue pumper, along with a mini pumper on rubber tracks. Rosenbauer introduced the Smart Cab, a modular crew enclosure for commercial chassis vehicles. KME launched the Predator Pro Series, combining a pumper and rescue unit, along with a new 76-foot aerial.

Crimson highlighted their recent acquisition of Classic Fire, showcasing a "Transformer" unit on a commercial chassis. American LaFrance expanded its offerings by making the Eagle custom chassis available to other manufacturers. Lastly, E-ONE introduced the eMAX pumper series with a narrow operator’s panel, showing innovation in design and functionality.
