Dear Team,
I hope this note finds you well. Many of you have already seen the announcement we shared earlier today, but I wanted to take this moment to personally share my thoughts and future plans with all of you. Over the past couple of years, I’ve had several conversations with the board regarding my role as CEO, and today, we’ve made the official announcement that I’ll be stepping down. I’m genuinely thrilled to leave the company in the capable hands of Amar and Andrew as they navigate the search for a new CEO. I have full confidence that they’ll excel in managing the company during this transition, and I’d be deeply honored if either of them were selected as the next leader.
While I’m excited about what lies ahead, I want to emphasize that my departure isn’t due to a desire for more personal time; rather, I feel it’s the right time for me to explore new opportunities and challenges. The financial markets have certainly recognized Autodesk’s success, and our leadership team has proven to be robust. When I took over as COO 14 years ago, I could never have imagined the trajectory we’ve achieved. Today, we’re not just thriving but leading the charge in transitioning to a subscription-based business model, excelling in the cloud, and resolving key investor concerns. It feels like the perfect juncture for both the company and myself.
Though I’ll no longer be the CEO, I remain committed to Autodesk’s future. I’ll continue serving on the board and will always be available to support the transition process. My passion for innovation and technology remains unwavering, and I look forward to exploring new avenues, including dedicating more time to my robotics projects in the workshop.
Reflecting on my tenure as CEO, I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished together. Autodesk has grown into a company that embodies greatness, goodness, and significance. These qualities define our identity and guide our mission. I’ve always believed that true success comes from balancing financial performance with ethical values and meaningful contributions to society. Under my leadership, we’ve achieved remarkable milestones in each of these areas.
To our customers, thank you for trusting us with your visions and creations. To our partners worldwide, your dedication has been instrumental in our achievements. To our shareholders, your belief in sustainable growth has been invaluable. And to the entire team, your hard work, innovation, and commitment have made Autodesk what it is today. I’ll forever cherish the moments we’ve shared and the friendships forged along the way.
As I step aside, I carry with me immense gratitude for everyone who’s played a role in Autodesk’s journey. This experience has been nothing short of transformative, and I hope I’ve left behind a legacy of integrity and excellence.
Thank you all for everything.
Warm regards,
Carl
