Thursday night in Berwyn saw a significant house fire break out on Gunderson Avenue around 1509 hours. Drew Gresik captured some powerful images from the scene, which provided a vivid look at the response effort. Two individuals were transported to the hospital due to the severity of the situation. Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames consuming the rear of the single-story-and-a-half residence.
Command quickly escalated the incident to a Full Still status, prompting the request for additional resources. The Oak Park Tower 631 and Berwyn Truck 904 deployed their elevated master streams to combat the blaze. Berwyn Engines 902 and 903 dropped their hose lines, while Berwyn Quint 901, Cicero Engine 2, and Forest Park Engine 402 joined in the pumping operations alongside the two Berwyn engines. Based on preliminary observations, it seemed the fire originated at the back of the home.
Here are some highlights from Drew's photos: Berwyn Engine 902 with multiple lines operating, Oak Park Tower 631 set up at the intersection of 15th and Gunderson, Berwyn Truck 904 positioned on 15th Street, a front view of the burning building, Stickney Engine 1203 responding, Cicero F-12—a 2012 Chevy Tahoe—on scene, Berwyn Quint 901 pumping water for Truck 904’s aerial operation, and multiple views of the rear of the structure.
These images truly capture the intensity and coordination required during such incidents. Many thanks to Drew Gresik for sharing his photos and insights.

After spending some time analyzing the situation, I wanted to add a bit more context to what happened that evening. It's clear that the firefighters faced a challenging scenario, but their professionalism and teamwork were evident throughout the operation. The use of elevated master streams and multiple pumpers shows just how critical these resources are when dealing with large-scale fires like this one.
The community should feel reassured knowing that their local departments are prepared to handle emergencies of this magnitude. Special recognition goes to Berwyn Quint 901 for its crucial role in supporting Truck 904’s efforts. Additionally, seeing Cicero F-12 arrive on scene highlights the collaborative nature of firefighting in the region.
