I just got this update from Josh Boyajian: --- **January 8, 2015 – A Box Alarm at 11625 Fairfax Court in Tinley Park** The scene was absolutely brutal, with temperatures plunging and snow covering everything. It was one of those days where you can feel the winter’s bite in every breath you take. The fire broke out in a single-family home, and by the time the first responders arrived, it was already raging out of control. From what I’ve gathered, the flames had taken over the first floor and spread into the attached garage. Here's how Assistant Fire Chief Kris Dunn described the situation: > "When we arrived, the intensity of the fire was clear. We saw thick smoke billowing out, and the flames were licking up the walls. It was chaotic, but our guys moved quickly to assess the situation." Unfortunately, things took a turn for the worse when one of the firefighters slipped on a patch of ice while trying to get a handle on the blaze. He wasn’t alone; another civilian also sustained an injury during the rescue effort. Both were rushed to the hospital, but thankfully, their conditions seem stable. What struck me most was how relentless the elements were that day. The images from the scene speak volumes—firefighters completely encased in ice, their helmets frosted over, looking like warriors from another world. Even the hoses were frozen solid at times, making their job exponentially harder. Take a look at these photos captured by Josh Boyajian himself. They really capture the rawness of the situation: [Image: Firefighter covered in ice and snow] Caption: "A firefighter battling the elements." [Image: Fireman with ice-covered helmet] Caption: "Every move made in sub-zero temperatures came with added challenges." [Image: Firemen operating hose in a snowstorm] Caption: "Even in the harshest conditions, they pushed forward." The Tribune article added some more details, mentioning that there was initially concern about someone being trapped inside the burning home. Thankfully, that fear was unfounded. Still, the priority remained on containing the fire before it could spread further. As the day went on, the firefighters worked tirelessly, often stopping only briefly to warm up or refuel. It’s a reminder of why we respect them so much—they’re out there risking life and limb to protect others, no matter the circumstances. Stay safe out there, folks. --- *Note: All images are credited to Josh Boyajian.*
