I just received this update from Larry Shapiro regarding the fire incident in Wheeling: --- Around 4 p.m., Wheeling firefighters were dispatched to 195 Cindy Lane after receiving reports of smoke inside the house. Upon arrival, local police quickly escalated the situation to a Code 4, indicating an active fire, as they observed the entire structure engulfed in flames. Two occupants who managed to escape were taken to Northwest Community Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. The first fire unit on the scene, Wheeling Engine 23, provided a quick assessment: fire was visible through the roof of the single-family home. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack, dealing with fire spreading both in the attic and on the second floor. It’s worth noting that the homeowner was reportedly working on some plumbing, soldering pipes, when the fire broke out. Units from neighboring departments—Long Grove, Buffalo Grove, Arlington Heights, and Mount Prospect—provided additional support to the Wheeling teams.
