Autodesk is excited to announce its role as the lead sponsor of Smartgeometry 2014, an annual gathering that unites top minds in architectural design and computational tools from around the globe. This year’s event, hosted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong from July 14–17, will explore the theme of “urban compactionâ€â€”a critical topic in today's high-rise cities where population density and infrastructure are rapidly evolving.
The workshops will feature keynote presentations from industry leaders who will share insights on how computational design is transforming urban environments. Autodesk will play a central role by showcasing how Building Information Modeling (BIM), powered by open-source Dynamo technology, allows designers to integrate intelligent data early in the design process. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on how these tools can be applied to future projects, enhancing efficiency and innovation in their own offices.
Shane Burger, Director of Design Technology at Woods Bagot, emphasized the value of Autodesk’s support: "As part of our global design process, Autodesk software has proven essential in enabling agile design and delivery. With this partnership, we look forward to seeing how Dynamo and Revit work together to push the boundaries of computational design."
At the Smartgeometry 2014 exhibition, Autodesk will demonstrate the latest version of Dynamo, 0.7.1, which includes several exciting improvements. These include a major code refactor for better scalability and readability, expanded geometric capabilities built on the same foundation as Fusion and Inventor, and enhanced scripting tools that allow users to write Python code directly within the visual programming environment.
Additionally, Dynamo now supports library imports, enabling users to load custom tools and extend its functionality. This feature opens up new possibilities for collaboration and innovation, especially with contributions from the growing open-source community.
Jim Lynch, Vice President of Building & Collaboration Products at Autodesk, said: "For decades, we’ve helped architects streamline their workflows. With Dynamo, we’re entering a new era of productivity. By using parameters instead of manual geometry, designers can focus more on the human experience of the built environment."
